1. How your files are processed
In-browser converters (marked "In-browser" on the tile): these conversions run entirely on your own device using browser technology. Your files are never uploaded to any server and we have no access to them at any time.
Server-side converters: for formats a browser cannot process (e.g. Word, HEIC, Pages, CAD), your file is transferred over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our conversion service and processed via the API of ConvertAPI (Baltic Amadeus, Vilnius, Lithuania — EU). Files are used exclusively to perform the conversion you requested and are deleted automatically after processing. We do not open, analyse or archive the content of your files. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (performance of the requested service).
2. Server log files
Our hosting provider (Hostinger International Ltd.) automatically stores technical access data (IP address, date and time, requested page, browser type) in server log files for the purpose of operating and securing the website. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure, stable service). Log files are deleted automatically after a short retention period.
3. Rate limiting
To prevent abuse of the free server-side converters, we count conversions per day using a hashed (non-reversible) form of your IP address. This data is deleted automatically after two days. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.
4. Google AdSense
This website uses Google AdSense, a service for including advertisements, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google"). Google AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies (e.g. web beacons) to serve, report on and personalise ads. Google may process information about your visit to this and other websites in order to show ads that are relevant to you. Data may also be transferred to Google LLC in the USA; the transfer is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and EU standard contractual clauses.
Personalised advertising is only loaded after you have given consent via our consent banner (legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, § 25 (1) TDDDG). You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.
You can also manage or disable ad personalisation here:
5. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (for us: Der Hamburgische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit). To exercise your rights, contact ad@bigpdf.com.
6. Contact by e-mail
If you contact us by e-mail, we process the data you provide to handle your request (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR) and delete it once the request is resolved, unless statutory retention duties apply.
